(Excerpted from the headline story, Owosso Argus Press,
Owosso, Michigan, April 12, 1957)
An Owosso girl who has a fine eye when it comes to sewing with precision
and a Durand boy who definitely has his eye on the future have been named
grand prize winners in the local Youth Talent Exhibition.
They are Marilyn Jennings, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Otho Jennings, and
Dennis Holloway son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holloway. Both winners are 14-year-old
eighth graders.
Their grand prize witll be a chaperoned, expense-paid three-day visit to
Washington, D.C. Youth Talent Exhibit is co-sponsored by schools in this
area and the Owosso Argus Press, with that newspaper donating the prizes.
...It took a great deal of imagination on Dennis' part to come up with his
"Neutronia" or city of the future. That plus such assorted items
as a plastic bowl, a ball, cardboard, wood and weeds. When he was through,
the 13 square foot city included a civic rotunda, school, research center,
shopping center, atomic heat and power plant, office building, rocket departure
terminal, "normal" homes, an expressway and a church.
While the youthful artist spent six months making his city he spent some
two years thinking it over. It takes that kind of planning whien you want
to become and architectural engineer. Dennis is also handy with a paint
brush. He took second and third prizes at the exhibit with his water colors
and last year had a first with a painting and a second place with an insect
collection.....
